Prior to the events of ''INFRA'', Alex Hartman rigged the supports and walls underneath Walter Tower with dynamite provided by Eric Kleinmann. Hartman recorded an audio log to taunt Jeff Walter and trigger the dynamite to explode should he ever return to his company's headquarters. This never came to pass however, and the trap was left untouched for decades. Several documents concerning the construction inspection of Obenseur, (more commonly referred to as "Open Sewer") were discovered by someone, and revealed that the tenement buildings were built with subpar materials, and should of been demolished, but the city planning committee continued the construction project anyway.

Mark escapes from Central Station and finds his way to the surface in an alleyway. With no way access to the streets, Mark enters another sewer, and realizes he must hike the rest of the way to the office. The interconnected tunnels take Mark through a partially flooded electrical station, and underneath Walter Co. headquarters. The trap demolishes the supports of the building and the room begins to collapse. Mark narrowly escapes being crushed, but becomes trapped underground yet again. He can explore the area to get access to upper levels of the tower, but eventually comes across a mysterious bunker deeper underground. Mark restores power to the entrance hall, and without any other way to proceed, he enters the bunker.
