Andrew Herts is an unknown minor character that apparently created The Machine, aka UGU. He is the father of Kevin J. Herts.
Andrew Herts is a minor character mentioned only in several notes. He is the father of Kevin J. Herts, grandfather of Elo, and creator of The Machine, a mysterious device prominent in the ARG.
He is deceased, and was probably at Turnip Hill at the time of his death since that is where his grave is located.

Biography
The only information about Herts stems from the hidden note in tunnel2. Hert's reasoning for creating the Machine was to "help the poor people" of Stalburg, although the question of whether or not the Machine is solely mechanical in nature is obfuscated by the fact that the note claims the Machine was a 'creature' that became a legend in Stalburg, and was revered as "the god of the underground". The machinations of how Herts accomplished this is left unknown, but he was helped by "seven masked men", who gathered ingredients for the machine, among them, human beings. The disappearance of many homeless people in Stalburg would coincide with other notes that imply that Stalburg Underground is luring, or even kidnapping people from Obenseuer, hinting that Herts may be a member of the cult, Stalburg Underground.

The cause of Hert's death is unknown, but he was in Turnip Hill at the day of his death on April 27th, 1986, and buried in the graveyard. His grave appears to be recently tended to with candles.

Trivia
* The day of Hert's death, April 27th, is used as a keypad code for the door leading to Tunnel B2, and the blast doors for the city gates beneath Obenseuer.

* Hert's backstory has a very vague connection with Mesopotamian mythology, in particular, the "galla" were seven demons sent to carry unsuspecting victims to the underworld for their gods, among them Ukur, a god of the underworld.
