Collapse Hazard

This quest can be obtained in the mines by talking to Toivo Malmijoki. Toivo is the worker employed by OS Mining Services and can be found in front of the building, which can in turn be found in the Service Area of the Mines.

Toivo will recognize the player as the owner of the tenement building above and immediately will inform player that they are in trouble - the tunnel below the building is very dilapidated and is very close to complete collapse. And, of course, if the tunnel collapses, the building on top of it will crumble into the resulting hole with obvious consequences to any tenants within. Toivo will then direct player to speak with the engineer Ken Nakahara who can be found at the second store office of the same building. Ken will explain the situation with the tunnel further and outline the possible steps in remedying the issue.

Thankfully, OS Mining is more then ready to reinforce the tunnel in question - given player's cooperation. The tunnel is, legally, a part of the tenement, therefore all the costs of renovating it fall to the new owner of the building. Additionally, the way in is blocked by a number of rocks and cave-ins, which need to be cleared out. It takes a considerable amount of dynamite, but a reasonably well-heeled player will be able to procure and use the necessary amount within two-three days at most. Dynamite can be bought at the Mining Store in bulk and found in various locations of the mines.

The tunnel in question begins at the Erikson's Claim and is helpfully labeled Tenements Access. The doors may require lockpicking. Once the tunnel is completely cleared out (Yes, including the small rocks needing one or two dynamites, not just big cave-ins.), Ken should be informed. At this point, Ken begins to offer renovation services (although they are limited in scope to a select underground improvements) and player is directed to upgrade the mine to makeshift level.
