The map Furnace contains almost the entirety of Stalburg Steel's appearance in the game. Mark must pass through it to get to a cellular transceiver at the top of the factory. It is a derelict building that does not have to photographed.

Story

Stalburg Steel was a major employer for Stalburg, and a great economic power. The workers for the factory over time became dissatisfied with the working conditions and layoffs of the factory. Sometime before October 1981, Stalburg Steel had gone through layoffs of its employees due to economic hardship. Over time, restlessness grew among the remaining employees, and a worker's union organized a strike. Jeff Walter, the new owner of Stalburg Steel, used this strike as a coverup to cease operations of the factory. Closing down the factory caused massive unemployment in Stalburg, and strangled the city's budget and economy. Over time, the factory deteriorated. After an unknown amount of time, squatters began to inhabit the factory for shelter, and even one man known only as SBconvE began to farm normal mushrooms there. When Mark arrives, he moves through the factory in attempt to get to the cellular transceiver. Through either malice or negligence, Mark causes a large fire in the factory, but manages to stop it before any more major damage is done.

Locations

Factory

The factory itself has been abandoned for decades, and has fallen into a state of terrific disrepair. It had a cellular tower atop of one of the towers, and even that had recently ceased to function, unknown to anyone except for Mark and a mushroom farmer. The factory is still partially operational, large machinery still powered and movable with a bit of work.

Mushroom Farm

The mushroom farm is a optional area of the factory. It is a small room locked behind a steel fence, filled with modern electronics and its namesake. The mushrooms that are farmed there are the original psychedelic mushrooms and not the green mushrooms so prosperous in Stalburg. The owner of the farm is responsible for making traversing the factory difficult for the homeless population, and possibly government employees. The farmer's tablet shows evidence of his connection to Open Sewer, as the members of the IRC room he frequents have names that reference Open Sewer.
