In 2008, a third reactor began construction with the approval of National Parliament. It is a EPR-type reactor and is estimated to produce 1600 MW of power under full operation. The construction of this reactor has faced stark criticism due to falling renewable energy prices. Black Rock 3 is on schedule to open and begin producing power in the spring of 2018. Upon opening, it will boost Block Rock NPP's total output from 1560 MW to approximately 3160 MW.
