Main pumping hall at the Pine Fell Water Plant facility

The Pine Fell Water Plant[1][2] facility, also known as the Hammer Valley Pumping Station,[3] is one of many[2] pumping stations operated by Stalburg Water company in the Stalburg metropolitan area, that distribute potable water to nearby towns from the Stalburg city.

The Pine Fell Water Plant facility is located at the Pine Fell hill[4] within Hammer Valley area, it consists of two sections, an older underground one - built into the Bergmann Water Tunnel, used to control the water flow rate, and a newer one above the surface - hosting the pumping equipment. The facility is operated by at least three known personnel at rotating shifts, with at least one person present on-site at any time.

History[edit | edit source]

The facility was originally constructed as a part of the Bergmann Water Tunnel to control the water flow rate in the tunnel, while the on-surface section served as a maintenance building and personnel access. At some point in the future the facility was expanded with a newer section to host the water pumps to extend the range of potable water distribution.

On the morning of August 8th, 2016, the currently stationed[5] employee noted issues with red pipes and ventured into the underground section to examine the issue.[6] During his absence, Markku Siltanen enters the underground portion of the facility as part of routine inspection, and unintentionally triggers a massive collapse of the tunnel beneath the facility, before escaping to the surface portion using the elevator connecting the two. As a result of that, the staircase the station's employee used prior is collapsed, and the fate of that employee is unknown.
