The Disappearance of Alice

Pia asked you to find her friend Alice. She told that Alice mentioned someone named Joel throwing a party. Pia suggested that you go and ask the neighbors if they have seen Alice.

Activating the Quest

After helping Fredrik with the test in Red Danger, he will ask you to take medicine to Pia and give you the key. Inside, speak with Pia to start the quest.

Tips

• Having OSRat and enough batteries allows to garner more information about the situation. All three bodies located throughout the quest can be examined with OSRat and their ghosts questioned. It is not required to advance the quest, but does fill out the narrative and provides additional clues.
• A player with penchant for ghastly can use an axe to chop off Pia's head (dialogue option with her corpse) to create a unique piece of furniture - Pia's Head lantern.

Investigate Joel's apartment

Joel's apartment is A1. When you enter, his dead body is on the floor and you get this task. It's marked as complete when you find the Small storage keys on the table in the kitchen, next to a note titled "Joel's list":

Check what's in the small storage

Going inside the small storage, you find a woman's body, with a photo of Pia in her hand. It seems some kind of ritual was done to her, and that this is probably Alice's body.

Tell Pia what you found

Give her the photo you found on the body, and she'll ask you to mail a letter for her, then return.

Mail Pia's letter

Simple enough, just drop it in the postbox near the ATM.

Return to Pia

When you return to the house, Pia isn't in the bedroom anymore.

Ask Tatyana about Alice

Tatyana is next to where you first entered into Obenseuer.

"Alice, you say? You know her? I haven't seen her for a while, though. The last I heard, she was spending a lot of time with her boyfriend, Joel Hietala. Maybe he knows something?"

Ask Axel about Alice

Axel is located in the passport control to bazaar, the same building as the jail.

Axel told you that Alice has been spending time with some man and he also saw them heading towards Tenement A a few times.

Asking around

Pia is worried about her friend Alice being absent for longer then usual. She requests to find Alice. Pia is limited in her knowledge of Alice`s activities outside the house, due to her self-quarantine, but she does suggest that her neighbors may know something. She names Tatyana Gopnikova and Axel as the neighbors in question. She also mentions that recently Alice seemed to be spending time with a young man named Joel, but she does not know his last name or whereabouts.

The witnesses in question can be located in the Residential district of Obenseuer. Tatyana spends her time on the bench outside the checkpoint where the game began, waiting for her husband. Axel is the clerk at the Gatehouse. Questioning either of them gives an additional piece of puzzle. Tatyana knows that Joel's last name is Hietala and Axel have had seen Alice and Joel go into Tenement A a lot.

Investigating A1

Those two factoids are a good indication where to look next. Since the player is guaranteed to have access to Tenement A already, the next step would be simply going in and checking the directory in the lobby. It states that Hietala occupies apartment A1. Joel himself can be found dead on the floor in the pool of blood. Investigating the apartment turns up several notes which both suggest Small Storage next to Pia's house as the next location to investigate and imply Joel had another woman involved with this. A woman who unsettled Joel with her deep religiousness. Joel`s body can be investigated with OSRat, but his spirit does not say much aside from his desire to return to his body.

Investigating Small Storage

Going back to Small Storage and entering it allows one to find a body who is likely Alice herself. The body is laid out and covered in peculiar manner, exposing part of her face and stomach. The stomach has a clearly visible big cut on it. The body holds an old photo of Pia in pre-disease condition as a clue to the body`s identity. OSRat can be used here as well. Alice's spirit is distraught, but can give several important tidbits - she was murdered as a part of a ritual and targeted likely due to being pregnant. It is noteworthy to say that Alice is confused about the identity of her assailant. She begins by identifying them as "she", but as her story progresses, she becomes he. It is unclear just how complicit in her murder Joel actually is.

Back to Pia

Bringing the photo back to Pia is a logical next step, though one can possibly make a little detour to report the dead bodies to police first. It is strictly optional, however. Back with Pia, she begins by saying she knew Alice wouldn't be coming back with player. After a bit of a discussion regarding player's findings, which can vary depending on how thorough player was with investigation and how confident they are in their findings, Pia will ask player to take her letter and drop it off at the mailbox as soon as possible.

Pia's Murder

It does not matter how quick the player is - as soon as the letter is dropped into the mailbox, Pia is murdered in her sauna upstairs. Upon returning to her house, player finds that the mesh door leading into Pia's quarantined section is ajar and Pia is nowhere to be found. Going in and upstairs reveals Pia's body leaning against the wall in the sauna. OSRat can be used here again. Pia's spirit is confused about her suddenly being dead, but does say that the culprit was clearly a woman and she had Alice's keys to enter the house.

Fredrik's Last Clue

Reporting Pia's death to Fredrik ends this quest and begins Deeply Insane. Fredrik initially assumes that Pia finally succumbed to fungal disease, but when told otherwise, simply suggests the player should inform the authorities. He does know a little bit more about Joel and his roommate, however, and while he does not know her name, he does know she is a blonde woman and normally works in the mines.
