Alcohol Brewing

Revision as of 20:04, 28 October 2026 by Kritzefitz (talk | contribs) (Add pricing data for excellent blackcurrant liqeuer)

In Obenseuer, the player can brew alcohols on the course of multi-step process.

The player can turn raw products into a mash, ferment that mash into alcohols and distill those alcohols into stronger ones. The player can also make their own Malts from Wheat, however this requires a Malter - a rare and expensive piece of furniture.

Each step increases the total value of produced items.

Overview

Each step has a dedicated equipment player can craft or buy and place inside The Player's Tenement or found in the world owned by other NPCs. Unlike regular crafting, the player can scale up the process by providing the correct ratio of ingredients within the capacity of that brewing equipment. Larger batches of the same recipe will take the same amount of time as a smaller batch would, which is crucial when planning the production.

Each step also has an associated skill. The player can sell produced alcohols to Teuvo Skogman at the Cold Drinks stall at the Market Square.

Mashing

Mashing is the first step of brewing, it is done using a Mashing Barrel, that needs fuel, or a Mashing Kettle, that needs electricity. The player can either find recipes for various mashes or guess them once all ingredients are placed inside machine's storage. Failed process will produce Ruined Mash (or Glowing Ruined Mash) which can be recycled in Composting. Once process finishes, player gains skill in Mashing.

Produced mash is stored in fluid containers and needs to be refrigerated to preserve it. After completing Me Mash! quest, the player can sell the mash to Pentti Penttilä at the Speakeasy Bar, the selling value is dependent on quality, that is dependent on the skill in mashing, difficulty of the recipe, used ingredients, and quality of used ingredients. Pentti pays in RM, making it a very important source of income.

Each mashing recipe is composed of the base ingredients, a leaven and at least 5 L of water. Type of water (Dirty vs Pure) affects resulting quality. Using mushrooms instead of Yeast heavily penalizes resulting quality, even with Excellent quality mushrooms, causing even easiest recipes to produce mostly Crap and Bad quality mash.

Fermenting

Fermenting is the second step of brewing and will produce a ready light alcohol, it is done using a Fermenting Barrel, a Fermenting Bucket or a Fermenting Container. To start the process, player needs to put in any mash they have. Fermenting, unlike other steps, takes several days to finish, so doing a large batch at the same time is desirable. Once process finishes, player gains skill in Brewing.

Quality of resulting wine is heavily affected by recipe difficulty (same as mash difficulty, but targeting Brewing instead of Mashing). For easier recipes, like Carrot Wine, this means that Crap quality mash is easily upgraded into Excellent wine.

Distilling

Optional step to produce stronger alcohols, it is done using a Small Moonshine Distillery or a Medium Moonshine Distillery, those that the player can craft or buy are powered by electricity, however the player can find in the world distilleries that require fuel to operate. To start the process, the player needs to put in any alcohol they have, if alcohol can be distilled further, the recipe will be revealed. Once process finishes, player gains skill in Distilling.

Each alcohol distilling process requires at least a 1 L of light alcohol, normal or mushroom one, and will output 0,4 L of stronger alcohol, normal or mushroom one accordingly, and 0,1 L of Methanol. If the distilling process fails, the output will yield only 0,2 L of Bottoms, or Glowing Bottoms accordingly, instead.

Potato Wine ⇒ Potato Moonshine
Fecal Kilju ⇒ Fecal Moonshine

Watermelon Wine ⇒ Watermelon Moonshine
Blackcurrant Wine ⇒ Blackcurrant Liqueur

Green Orb Brew ⇒ Orbsinthe

Strong, non-mushroom alcohols can be further refined into Ethanol.

Bottling

While the quality of ingredient plays a large part on the final quality, bottling also matters a lot. The container you pick can make or break your final price. For the best payout, always go for Wine Bottles or Fancy Glass Bottles, as they fetch the highest value. In this example, one liter of excellent quality Strawberry Liquor's value fluctuate between 819   in a 20 L container, 1140   in a 1.5 L Wine Bottle and 2320   in a Fancy Glass Bottle, meaning using Fancy Glass Bottles instead of 20 L container can almost triple the final sell price.

Mash Selling Chart (WIP)

The container effects the price. You can sell jars of mash to One Stop Shop if they are in Jars. The quality also makes a difference. Currently only showing data for excellent quality products. This is a work in progress. Prices are in RM, except One Stop Shop, which is OC. The small number under each price is the price per liter.
