After completing Kurahaara Farmer quest, player can start growing any plants for Jomppe Kurahaara for profit. Farming job is a good way of making money in early game.
Overview
Any plant grown in the Greenhouse has a value based on its quality and type. Inside greenhouse, player is free to use seeds found on the table or in a chest behind Jomppe, or bring their own seeds themselves. After harvesting the crops, player can talk with Jomppe to give him the produce and receive OCs in return, Jomppe will take all crops from the inventory that were planted in the greenhouse - those items are marked as "owned" by Jomppe.
Quality of crops is dependent on the player's skill in Farming, which can be raised by planting more crops, however large fields inside greenhouse provide less skill gain.
Seeds brought from outside still produce Jomppe-owned plant products. This is particularly useful with Hops, which are very profitable when grown in the greenhouse (and only if grown in the greenhouse), but might not be stocked by Jomppe early on. Wood tree seeds can be brought from outside and used to produce Wood Logs - those will not be sold to Jomppe, but can be carried out of the greenhouse and used to grind Carpentry. Ownership status is lost on crafting.
Maximizing profit
At level 10 (which is gained very quickly), profit per fully planted and fully grown large farm, minus items spent to replant the farm, looks roughly like this:
| Plant | Expected profit per large farm (OC) |
|---|---|
| Onions | ~900 |
| Potatoes | ~1300 |
| Rye | ~800 |
Potatoes take longer to grow, meaning they only become profitable if you have to leave the greenhouse for longer.
Vine plants
Profit from most plants that need supports is hard to measure because the fruit starts spoiling as soon as it matures, meaning that the player will never sell it for full value.
However this does not impact the optimal choice much: Hops are far superior to Tomatoes, Bell Peppers, and Cucumbers. A greenhouse fully planted with Hops can produce ~2300 OC of hops in the time it takes Onions to mature. Other vine plants will struggle to produce 500 OC in that time, unless harvested VERY frequently.
